N
othing brings a room
together like a cosy rug,
especially when the
weather cools down.
Aside from the feetwarming appeal, these adaptable
floor coverings instantly add a layer
of noise and scuff protection while
also revamping the look and feel of
surrounding decor. But before you roll
out the carpet for this season’s neutral
shades and natural textures, there are
a few rules to remember that will help
you answer important size, material
and positioning questions.
Bigger is always better
This is true in most cases, as a generous
rug helps make any space feel larger.
If you can’t find one that’s big enough
for the living area, try buying two the
same size and lay them side-by-side,
or layer up several natural jute and
wool styles for a relaxed aesthetic.
“Place the front legs of chairs, armchairs and
sofas on the rug for visual cohesion. The rug
then contains the whole sitting area”
We created this room divider
by grouping indoor plants
on ladder shelves. It divides
an open-plan space and
freshens the room and air.
