The form of snapper fishing that has really gripped me of late is slow

successful. My preferred techniques are using light tackle, n particular soft deadly method, and when the snapper are feeding, few techniques will fish
baiting for them. When soft baiting you are essentially hunting the fish by as well
covering the water drifting down on top of them. Finding fish, then working
through them and then using the chart plotter to drift through them once
again can be deadly. I love soft baiting, largely because you get to cast out
in front of you, presenting your bait like a free drifting live bait, which can
produce some really big snapper.
Soft baiting works best in water from very shallow up to 30m in depth.
Everything is fished with braid, so every bump and knock is felt when you
stay in touch with your jig head. If you found the snapper fishing difficult
over the Christmas period, make sure that you get out now and try again.
The fish will be feeding hard, trying to put weight back on for the cooler
months when they slow down.
My two favourite softbait sets this summer have been the Daiwa Crossfire
3000 reel with the Phantom 702HFS rod. The reel is 4BB and very smooth. The
rod is light and responsive and a joy to use. It comes with free 4 strand J-Braid
and at $299.99 is wonderful value for money
The other is the Shimano twin power XD
the energy concept 4-8kg rod, and 11kg of drag to stop any
snapper that swims. Exceptionally smooth and, while at
